With the premiere of the All Nations Cup, *Stars of Tomorrow was also active for the first time in Germany in 2010. This event gave little *Stars of Tomorrow from more than 30 different nations the chance to play football together. “This tournament reflects the diversity of our city,” said Berlin’s mayor and patron Klaus Wowereit.
Despite all the sporting fervor, the focus at the World Cup facilities of the 11 Freunde magazine was on values like respect, fair play and integration which underlie the All Nations Cup.
Our supporters in this project included Günter Piening, the Berlin Senate’s Commissioner of Integration and Migration. Football legend and actor Jimmy Hartwig also spent the final day at the event as a sports ambassador for the All Nations Cup. The former German national player, Hartwig comforted the “Afrika Rise” team, for example, which was very sad to have placed only third in the tournament. Fitting for our world tournament (LINK zu http://weltturnier.de/), however, the “Afrika Rise” team received 100 points for the fact that each of its 7 team members had a different nationality: Lebanon, Palestine, Australia, England, Ghana, Turkey and Italy – the only one missing was Germany. It was a perfect example of the idea behind the tournament, namely for children to play football with each other on multicultural teams.
For *Stars of Tomorrow as well, playing football with each other meant that the tournament was designed not only for boys but also for girls. So no one was surprised that the completely mixed “Afro Soccer United” team that was playing together for the very first time made it to the finals.
Children of more than 30 nationalities participated, which although unfortunately not beating the world record was still a big success for the organizers led by Kai Hill (CEO and initiator of *Stars of Tomorrow): “I am very proud of our small team and am happy that my personal dream of an All Nations Cup has come true for the first time this summer. Our project work in South Africa shows us that sports have an enormous potential to provide children with opportunities for the future. We seek to bring this guiding principle of our work to this international tournament here in Berlin, and to have the All Nations Cup become even larger over the years to come.”
"THIS TOURNAMENT REFLECTS THE DIVERSITY OF OUR CITY.“
