Charity-Initiative to the World Cup in Germany

The initiative *stars of tomorrow will present 2010 children in South Africa with perspectives for their future: AOL, MTV and GRAVIS are on board

Berlin 07.06.2006 -  Shortly before the start of the Football World Cup on the 9th of June the initiative *stars of tomorrow was presented publicly in Berlin today.

The initiative uses the World Cup in Germany as starting point in order to give 2010 children in the next World Cup venue South Africa a long-term perspective for their future.

To this end Kai Hill created the initiative *stars of tomorrow under which umbrella companies and organisations joined together to support projects for the children in South Africa.

“The joy at football is a good thing. It is important to pass this joy on; we should not forget that the next World Cup will take place in a country in which many children do not have the prospect of a happy future“, says Kai Hill, director of the communication agency starcompany and initiator, to the idea of the initiative. „The initiative *stars of tomorrow aims at motivating companies and privat persons in Germany to pass on a bit of our joy in creating a long-term perspective for 2010 children in South Africa. Those children are children whose parents suffer from HIV/AIDS and children who are orphans or street children without any chance to earn their livelihood or to receive education” continues Mr Hill.

Partner of the initiative are the organisations in development assistance “Save the Children Germany” and “CARE International Germany” who will receive the donated money to put it in relevant projects in South Africa.

The first supported project is “KickAIDS“, a project in which education about HIV/AIDS and methods for prevention are integrated in the football or other sports training. The aim of KickAIDS is to raise awareness for the dangers of HIV/AIDS and to decrease the strong stigmatisation of people with HIV/AIDS that is still there.

Media partner are MTV and AOL who are not only enthusiastic about the World Cup in their own country but also want to engage for longer periods. MTV will broadcast a short trailer of the initiative. AOL will present information on their own webpage and appeal for donations.

As first supplier GRAVIS, a Berlin trade chain, is on board. They will donate 1 EUR from the sales revenue of each offer for the World Cup to *stars of tomorrow.

The patron of the initiative, Prof. Dr. Rita Süssmuth, hopes that many people will get involved with the initiative: “We should understand the word “team spirit“ not only in terms of a game, but as a responsibility which we carry worldwide not only for each other but especially for our children. That is why I hope that the initiative *stars of tomorrow will be very much supported in Germany in order to reach their aim to give children in South Africa a future and new courage to face life through a long-term and sustainable support.”
