Development Assistance: CARE International Germany
With 60 years of experience CARE’s programmes are grounded in an in-depth understanding of how poverty keeps people trapped from one generation to the next. Today, their staff of more than 12.000 help strengthen communities through an array of programs in 70 countries that work to create lasting solutions to root causes of poverty. While CARE is a large international organisation they have a strong local presence. More than 90 percent of the staff are citizens of the countries where the programmes are run and who work with local contacts and expertise.
CARE International‘s mission is to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities in the world. Drawing on diversity, resources and experience across the world, CARE promotes innovative solutions and advocates for global responsibility. CARE brings about lasting change by strengthening people’s ability to help themselves, providing economic opportunity, delivering relief in emergencies, influencing policy decisions at all levels and addressing discrimination in all its forms. With CARE, *stars of tomorrow has gained a partner with extensive experiences in sustainable development and donation management as well as a high competence for Africa.
Save the Children fights for children's rights. It delivers immediate and lasting
improvements to children’s lives worldwide. The first Save the Children
organisation was founded in May 1919, in London, United Kingdom. Nowadays, 27
Save the Children organisations make up the International
Save the Children Alliance, the world’s largest independent movement
for children, making improvements for children in over 110 countries. All Save
the Children organisations work with children in their own countries as well
as through international programmes.
Save the Children was an early pioneer in
the field of children’s rights.
Its founder wrote the world's first declaration on children's rights in 1923.
It formed the basis of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Save
the Children works closely with communities and local organisations to support
the people that are most affected in finding their own solutions. Working with
local partners also ensures that work does not stop even when Save the Children
leaves an area.
Save the Children first became involved in South Africa in 1986.
In 1997 they opened an office in Pretoria, and began to focus on research and
analysis on impacts of HIV/AIDS on children. The impacts of the HIV/AIDS epidemic
are now so severe that Save the Children has set up an operational programme
to urgently help orphans and vulnerable children. Save the Children supports
orphans and vulnerable children by engaging in HIV/AIDS prevention through
sexual education and by keeping those children in school who can no longer
afford school fees or school uniforms.
With Save the Children Germany, *stars
of tomorrow has won a competent and internationally recognized partner with ample
experience in helping children in South Africa.
