During a trip for the project at the start of December, Kai Hill and the *stars of tomorrow team met children, coaches and new partners in South Africa. Kai attended the prestigious SoccerEx football convention in Johannesburg and made many interesting new contacts.
Kai Hill returned from the trip (Nov. 28 to Dec. 5) with a wealth of new impressions.
Among other things, meetings were held with BMW South Africa, which had sent a delegation to visit the project. There were also impressive encounters with Lucas Radebe, Franz Beckenbauer and Marcia Lins, the person responsible for 2014 World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, during the first days of the trip. The Tony Blair Foundation "beyond sport" also showed interest in the *stars of tomorrow.
There was hardly any time to process these impressions of the first days before it was time to move on to the project in Soshanguve. Here Kai and coach Rhulani, as well as the local representatives Pauline and Refilwe, welcomed Dominik Prantl of the Sueddeutsche Zeitung. He was impressed by the over 100 orphans and vulnerable children who had come together for an afternoon of training and learning together. In addition to training, fun and educational games they all enjoyed the traditional pap (South African corn meal porridge) together.
Kai’s last stop of his trip led him to the Western Cape, to our new Pedagogy of Hope – Kick It project. This project was officially presented at the Stellenbosch university campus on the day the World Cup schedule was drawn. This enabled South African representatives from politics, business, sports and the media to get a first impression of the academic cooperation project.
On the night of the 4th of December, the fan party in Cape Town’s long street was the place to be. 50,000 dancing and Vuvuzela tooting fans: "This stamping and dancing, the music, the rhythm of the city, the Africans and the football fans – showed exactly what to expect when the football World Cup in South Africa starts on June 11, 2010.”
And on the morning of the 5th of December, while his last stop of the trip Kai attended to opening of the first of 20 Football for Hope centres in Kayelitsha. Jürgen Griessbeck and Kirk Friedrich of streetfootballworld laid the foundation for an impressive legacy of the strategic alliance with FIFA.
Kai returned to Germany full of drive and with many new contacts. Tonight he will keep his fingers crossed for our ambassador Ruth Moschner, who will be facing Jörg Pilawa’s questions on the Star Quiz on ARD. Good luck Ruth, we’re with you!
